As the holiday season settles in, we’re all thinking of ways to share the festive spirit with our entire family, and that, of course, includes our feline friends.

Buying a commercial cookie for your cat can be easy, but we think making them at home is a better idea, especially if you’re concerned about their health.

We’ve compiled a list of 11 cat Christmas cookies recipes that you can follow to make something special for your furbaby. Let’s get started!

11 Cat Christmas Cookies

1. Tuna Holiday Cookies for Your Cat

Ingredients

  • 1 cup tuna in water, drained very well
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 egg
  • 4 teaspoons dried catnip
  • 120 ml milk (Use this only if your cat tolerates dairy; water is a good substitute)

Instructions

  1. First, preheat the oven to about 350°F and get a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, use a fork to break up the well-drained tuna.
  3. Add the flour, egg, catnip, and your chosen liquid to the bowl. Mix everything well until all the ingredients are combined and form a dough.
  4. Scoop small bits of the dough and roll them into little balls, placing them on your prepared baking sheet.
  5. If you want to add a festive touch, you can use tiny holiday cookie cutters, but your cat will love them just as much as simple balls.
  6. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. The treats should feel firm and look dry on the outside when they are done.
  7. Allow the treats to cool down completely right on the baking sheet. Offer your cat a small piece first to see how they handle it.

2. Crunchy Tuna Christmas Cookies for Cats

Ingredients

  • 6 ounces canned tuna in water (do not drain)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Warm up your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a medium bowl, combine the undrained tuna, flour, cornmeal, and the egg.
  2. Add the 2 tablespoons of water and begin mixing and kneading the dough with your hands.
  3. If the dough feels too dry or crumbly, add a little more water, one tablespoon at a time, until you have a soft dough that holds together.
  4. Let the dough rest on the counter for about 10 minutes.
  5. Roll the dough out. To prevent sticking, you can roll it between two sheets of parchment paper or just lightly dust your work surface with a small amount of extra cornmeal.
  6. Use a small cookie cutter to cut the dough into festive shapes. You can even make little cat shaped cookies.
  7. Place the cut shapes onto your prepared baking sheet, then bake for 15 to 20 minutes. The treats should be firm and feel dry when they are done.
  8. Allow the cookies to cool completely, then offer a small piece to your cat to see how they handle it.

3. Easy Salmon and Catnip Pressed Treats

Ingredients

  • 1 (5-ounce) can pink salmon or tuna in water
  • 1 cup oat flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 heaping tablespoon dried catnip

Instructions

  1. Get your oven preheating to 350°F. While it’s warming up, line a baking sheet with parchment paper so nothing sticks.
  2. If you don’t have oat flour on hand, it’s easy to make your own. Just take some old-fashioned oats and grind them in a food processor or a clean coffee grinder until you have a fine powder.
  3. In that food processor, combine your drained salmon or tuna, the oat flour, the egg, a bit of olive oil, and the dried catnip.
  4. Pulse the mixture until it all comes together. You’re looking for a thick, pliable dough that’s easy to handle.
  5. Scoop the dough into small bits, about half a teaspoon each, and roll them into little balls. Place them on the baking sheet you prepared.
  6. For a nice little touch, you can use a fork to gently press a mark into the top of each dough ball. This gives them that classic cat cookies look.
  7. Bake them for 10 to 12 minutes. The treats are ready when they feel firm to the touch and look dry on top, maybe with just a little browning.
  8. When they’re done, take the baking sheet out of the oven and let the treats cool down completely.
  9. Once they’re cool, offer your cat a small piece first. You can store the extras in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

4. Mini Pumpkin-Catnip Bagel Sandwiches

Ingredients

For the “Bagels”:

  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried catnip
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 1/2 teaspoons pure pumpkin puree

For Assembly:

  • A cat-safe puree treat
  • Thin slices of a cat-safe salmon filet

Instructions

  1. First, preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a medium bowl, stir the flour and dried catnip together until they are well combined.
  2. To get the half egg this recipe requires, just crack the full egg into a small bowl, whisk it well, and then measure out 2 tablespoons of the beaten egg.
  3. In a separate small bowl, mix the measured egg with the pumpkin puree. Make sure you are using 100% pure pumpkin and not pumpkin pie filling.
  4. Pour the wet pumpkin mixture into the dry flour mixture. Stir everything until a thick dough forms, then go ahead and knead the dough in the bowl a few times until it’s fairly smooth.
  5. Roll the dough into 40 tiny balls, using about ¼ teaspoon of dough for each one. Place them on your baking sheet and flatten each ball just slightly.
  6. To get the “bagel” look, use the tip of a toothpick to poke a small hole right in the center of each one. This makes for a cute cat cookie design.
  7. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the treats are firm and just beginning to brown.
  8. Let the mini “bagels” cool down completely on the baking sheet. You can serve them plain as-is, or go on to assemble them into mini sandwiches.
  9. To assemble the sandwiches, take 20 of the cooled “bagels.” Squeeze a tiny bit of a cat-safe puree treat onto the flat side to act as a “schmear.”
  10. Top that puree with a very thin slice of cat-safe salmon. Be sure to avoid any smoked salmon because of its high sodium content.
  11. Place a second “bagel” on top (flat side down) to complete the sandwich.

Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ cups oat flour, divided
  • ½ cup unseasoned, boneless, skinless turkey
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup pure pumpkin puree
  • Coconut oil

Instructions

  1. First, get your oven preheated to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Now, you need to cook the turkey. You can either boil the turkey breast or sauté ground turkey (using a tiny bit of coconut oil if needed) until it is completely cooked through.
  3. Place the cooked turkey into a blender or food processor and grind it until it’s smooth.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine the ground turkey, pumpkin puree, the egg, and 1 cup of the oat flour. Make sure you are using 100% pure pumpkin. Mix everything to form a dough.
  5. Sprinkle some of the remaining oat flour onto a clean cutting board or work surface. Roll the dough out to about a ¼-inch thickness.
  6. You can cut the dough into your desired shapes, like simple ½-inch squares, or use small cutters to make festive holiday cookies.
  7. Place the cut-out treats on your lined baking sheet and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the cookies feel firm to the touch.
  8. Let the treats cool completely. Offer your cat just one small piece first to see how they handle it, as these are treats and not a meal replacement.
  9. Store the cooled cookies in a closed container in the refrigerator. They should stay fresh for 3 to 7 days.

6. Savory Salmon and Spinach Patties

Ingredients

  • 1 cup canned or pouch salmon (in water), drained
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup fresh spinach leaves
  • 1 ¼ cup oat flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with a baking paper. Place the drained salmon, the egg, all the spinach leaves, and the oat flour right into a blender or food processor.
  2. Mix or pulse until all those ingredients are well combined. You’re looking for it to form a thick batter.
  3. Drop a small spoonful of the batter, about ¼ to ½ teaspoon each, onto the baking sheet you prepared.
  4. You can use the back of a spoon to press each drop of batter into a small, flat disc.
  5. If the spoon starts to stick, just dip it in a little extra oat flour. This creates a neat little patty, and the flecks of spinach and salmon make for a colorful cat cookie design.
  6. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the patties are firm and look golden. Let the treats cool completely on the baking sheet before offering one to your cat.

7. Sweet Potato and Tuna Holiday Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup canned tuna or salmon (in water), drained and mashed
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ¼ cup baked sweet potato, mashed
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed or psyllium husk
  • 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
  • 1-2 tablespoons water or unsalted broth

Instructions

  1. Switch your oven on and warm it up to about 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper; it just makes cleanup so much easier.
  2. In a bowl or a food processor, combine the mashed tuna (or salmon), the mashed sweet potato, beaten egg, flaxseed, and nutritional yeast.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon of water or a safe, unsalted broth. Mix or blend everything until it comes together into a dough-like consistency.
  4. Place the dough on a non-stick surface (or between two sheets of parchment paper) and roll it out to about a ¼ -inch thickness.
  5. Feel free to use festive cutters to make holiday cookies for your cat. If the dough feels a bit too wet to work with, just mix in a little more ground flaxseed to help it hold together.
  6. Carefully place the cut-out cookies on your prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes. They’re ready when they feel firm and look slightly golden.
  7. Let the cookies cool completely right on the pan. Once they’re cool, offer your cat just one small treat to see how they handle it.

8. Simple Turkey and Oat Treats

Ingredients

  • 100g rolled oats
  • 100g cooked white meat turkey, plain and chopped small
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Set your electric oven to 350°F to preheat. You’ll also need a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Add the small pieces of cooked turkey to the food processor. Pulse it again until the meat is finely ground and well combined with the oat flour.
  3. Turn this mixture out into a bowl. Add the egg and mix everything, using your hands at the end to bring it all together into a dough.
  4. This recipe makes a nice batch, so you can easily save some for later. Divide the dough into four equal balls and put three of them in the freezer to use another time.
  5. Working with the one ball of dough you kept, take small amounts and roll them into little balls.
  6. On a lightly floured surface, press each ball flat with your finger to make small, bite-sized Kitty Cookies.
  7. Place the biscuits evenly on your lined baking tray. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes. The treats are done when they are golden brown and feel dry on top.
  8. Once they’re cooked, allow the treats to cool completely on the tray. Offer your cat just one to start and see how they handle it. Remember, these are treats, not a full meal.
  9.  Store the cooled treats in an airtight container in the fridge and use them within a few days for best freshness.

9. Easy Baked Holiday Treats for Your Cat

Ingredients

  • 1 can of your cat’s favorite pate-style canned food

Instructions

  1. Set your oven to about 350°F. As that’s heating, grab a baking sheet and line it with parchment paper.
  2. Open the can of cat food. If there’s a layer of gravy or jelly on top, gently scoop that part off; it helps the treats bake more evenly.
  3. Carefully turn the can upside down and let the pate slide out onto a cutting board.
  4. Slice the round of pate horizontally into three or four thinner, even layers.
  5. Use a very small cookie cutter (a star or heart shape is fun) to press shapes out of the cat food layers.
  6. Place the cut-out shapes onto your prepared baking sheet.
  7. You can gather all the leftover scraps, press them flat together, and cut out even more shapes to use up all the food. This is a simple way to do some Christmas baking just for your cat.
  8. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes. Thinner treats will be done faster, while the thicker ones might need the full 20 minutes.
  9. The treats will still be a bit soft when you take them out of the oven, but they will get firmer and crisp up as they cool.

Ingredients

  • 1 (6-ounce) can tuna in water, no salt added
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1-2 tablespoons dried catnip, crushed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Unsalted chicken broth
  • Up to 2 tablespoons of water

Instructions

  1. The first thing to do is get the oven warming up to 350°F. While it’s coming to temp, you’ll want to line a large cookie sheet with foil or parchment paper.
  2. Drain the can of tuna, but be sure to reserve ¼ cup of the liquid from that can. If you don’t quite get ¼ cup of tuna water, top it off with a little unsalted chicken broth to reach the mark.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the drained tuna, that ¼ cup of reserved liquid, the coconut oil, and the crushed catnip.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, stir the all-purpose flour and whole wheat flour together.
  5. Add the tuna mixture and the shredded cheese to the flour bowl. Stir everything together until it is just combined.
  6. If the dough seems too dry or crumbly, stir in a little water (up to 2 tablespoons) until the dough is moist enough to come together.
  7. Form the dough into a ball using your hands. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out into a thin rectangle. You can trim the uneven edges if you like.
  8. Using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife, cut the dough into very small, bite-sized squares to make a large batch of tiny kitty cookies.
  9. Place the pieces on your prepared cookie sheet in a single layer.
  10. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. The original recipe notes they should still be somewhat soft when they’re done.
  11. Let the cookies cool completely right on the cookie sheet before giving some to your feline friend.

11. Savory Chicken and Apple Snowman Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 small, plain chicken breast
  • 1 apple
  • 300g oat flour, plus extra for dusting
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon dried catnip

Instructions

  1. The first thing to do is cook the chicken. Get your oven preheating to 350°F. Bake the plain chicken breast for about 25 minutes, or until it’s fully cooked through.
  2. Once the chicken is cool enough to handle, proceed to finely shred the meat into thin strips.
  3. While the chicken is cooking, peel and cut the apple into small pieces. Make sure you discard the core and all of the seeds because they are unsafe for cats.
  4. Place the apple pieces in a small pan and add just enough water to cover them. Cover the pan with a lid and let it simmer for about 20 minutes. Drain off any excess water.
  5. In a blender or food processor, add the shredded chicken, the cooked apple, the eggs, the oat flour, and the catnip. Pulse everything until it is well combined into a dough.
  6. On a flat surface dusted lightly with extra oat flour, roll out the dough until it’s about 1 cm thick (a little less than half an inch).
  7. Use a small snowman-shaped cutter to cut out the biscuits. This part is just for your enjoyment, as your cat will be more interested in the taste!
  8. Place these cat Christmas cookies on a lined baking tray and bake for about 15 minutes, or until they are golden.
  9. Remove the tray from the oven and let the cookies cool completely before offering one to your cat.

Ensuring Complete Nutrition

We all love the idea of making special cookies for our feline friends during Christmas. It feels like a genuine act of love.

However, it’s crucial to frame these cookies with the golden rule of feline nutrition; treats are strictly for treating.

Cat treats must always be seen as a complement to, not a replacement for, your cat’s main meals.

A high-quality, home-made, or commercially prepared cat food is designed to be ‘complete and balanced’ for a reason.

Remember, all treats, even healthy homemade ones, should not make up more than 10% of your cat’s total daily calorie intake.

The other thing you should never forget is to always consult your veterinarian before making significant changes to your cat’s diet or adding new supplements.

When you and your vet do decide to add something, you’ll likely discuss a few common feline supplements.

Omega-3 fatty acids, for example, are very popular for supporting healthy skin, a shiny coat, and joint health.

Then there’s taurine supplement, which is an essential amino acid that improves cat’s heart and eye function.

You might also look at probiotics to help maintain a balanced, healthy digestion, or a simple multivitamin to fill in any small nutritional gaps.

Conclusion

And that brings us to the end of our 11 easy-to-make Cat Christmas Cookies recipe guide. We hope you found a recipe or two that you’re excited to try.

If you do get a chance to bake a batch, we would love for you to come back and let us know how it went in the comment section. Happy Holidays!
